The Lightbearers Institute - Kings and Chronicles 31 March 2010

Andrew Brill taught recently on Kings and Chronicles, which is in essence the story of the kingdom of Israel. He taught first on the building of the temple, for which he presented five reasons for its existence:

1) To serve as a meeting place of God and man
2) To serve as a place of repentance, forgiveness and restoration
3) To display God's greatness to the nations
4) To house the Ark of the Covenant (containing the Word of God)
5) To emphasize the centrality of the Lord to Israel's survival

The point emphasized to me throughout this discussion was that the temple was not solely a dwelling place for God, because even the heavens cannot contain Him! Such a good reminder of God's greatness! Also, as our own bodies are temples of God's Spirit, it is a wise encouragement to view our purpose in light of the reasons listed above.
